Anti-doping bill, a much awaited regulation by the athlete fraternity and all other counterparts of sports in the country, was introduced in Lok sabha amid the chaos in Parliament over Lakhimapur Kheri incident .

Sports minister Anurag Thakur, introduced the it that empowers NADA  for “investigation, levying sanctions for Anti-Doping Rule Violations, the disciplinary procedures to be adopted and the powers of inspection, sample collection and sharing and free flow of information.”

The bill aimed to curb malpractices in Indian sports, gives NADA powers to boost their area of mandate along with giving a statutory position to the agency.

The bill is intended to provide a “statutory framework for the operation of the National Anti-Doping Agency, the National Dope Testing Laboratory and other dope testing laboratories and for creation of a National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports to strengthen anti-doping activities in sport.”

This new Anti-doping bill will make provisions for setting up new National Dope  test laboratories with world standards. Currently, National Dope test laboratories (NDTL) are suspended by World Anti doping agency (WADA) over not meeting standards as prescribed.
