Sadio Mane, the Senegalese forward who was part of Bayern Munich for one season, has joined the Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. Both clubs confirmed the transfer on Tuesday. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed officially, but according to media reports, Al-Nassr paid around 40 million euros ($43.85 million) for the 31-year-old, who had two more years remaining on his Bayern contract.

Mane made the move to Bayern Munich last year with high expectations following an impressive spell at Liverpool, where he scored 120 goals in 269 games and won various trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup. However, during his time with Bayern, he struggled to replicate the same level of impact he had at Liverpool. He reportedly had disagreements with teammate Leroy Sane and was involved in an incident where he hit the German winger, resulting in a fine and suspension.

“We want to thank Sadio Mane for the past season,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen informed the club website. “It certainly hasn’t been an easy year for him, suffering an injury just before the World Cup and missing out on participation with Senegal, whom he had earlier led to their maiden Africa Cup of Nations triumph and World Cup qualification.”

“Due to the long downtime, he wasn’t able to contribute as much to FC Bayern as we and he himself had hoped. That’s why we decided together that he should start a new chapter in his career and make a fresh start at another club.”

Throughout his career, Mane has been highly regarded and earned the African Footballer of the Year award twice. During his time at Liverpool, he consistently scored more than 20 goals per season. However, his goal-scoring rate reduced to 12 goals during his season at Bayern Munich.

Al-Nassr, the Saudi club, has been active in the transfer market, signing midfielders Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan and Seko Fofana from Lens, as well as left-back Alex Telles from Manchester United. However, they were previously banned from registering new players due to outstanding debts, particularly related to the transfer of Nigerian player Ahmed Musa from Leicester City, for which they were required to pay 460,000 euros ($504,712.00) by FIFA.
