Indian badminton player P.V. Sindhu faced a disappointing quarter-final exit in the Australian Open Badminton tournament after losing to Chinese-born American player Beiwen Zhang with scores of 21-12, 21-17. Currently ranked World No. 17, Sindhu battled against World No. 12 Zhang in a closely contested match.

Prior to reaching the quarterfinals, Sindhu demonstrated her exceptional skills in earlier rounds. In the Round of 32, she defeated Ashmita Chaliha with scores of 21-18, 21-13. Moving on to the Round of 16, she outplayed Aakarshi Kashyap with scores of 21-14, 21-10.

Sindhu has achieved remarkable success in various prestigious tournaments, including winning a gold medal at the 2019 World Championships. She holds the distinction of being the first and only Indian badminton player to become a world champion and the second individual athlete from India to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games. In April 2017, she achieved her career-high world ranking of No. 2.

Notably, Sindhu represented India at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, where she became the first Indian badminton player to reach the Olympic final and won the silver medal after a closely fought match against Spain’s Carolina Marin. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, she secured a bronze medal, making her the first-ever Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.

For her outstanding contributions to sports, Sindhu has received several prestigious honors, including the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri (India’s fourth-highest civilian award), and Padma Bhushan (India’s third-highest civilian award).

While her Australian Open journey ended in the quarterfinals, P.V. Sindhu’s accomplishments and achievements continue to inspire and make her a pride of Indian badminton.
