Ranchi has been selected as the host city for the upcoming Women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament scheduled to take place in October and November. Following Chennai’s hosting of the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy earlier in the same month, Ranchi has been chosen as the venue for the women’s tournament, confirming a previous report by HT (Hindustan Times). This marks the first time that India will be hosting the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. The competition, featuring six teams, will occur from October 27 to November 5.

In addition to the host nation India, other participating teams include defending champions Japan, as well as South Korea, China, Malaysia, and Thailand. India has previously won the tournament once, in 2016. South Korea has secured victory three times, while Japan has been victorious twice in the six previous editions of the competition.

This event will also mark Jharkhand’s first time hosting an international hockey tournament. Ranchi has previously hosted matches for the Hockey India League (HIL) from 2012 to 2015 and was home to the city-based franchise Ranchi Rays.

“It is a big honour for us to host such a mega event in Ranchi. I believe it is a steppingstone to host more international hockey events. I thank Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) for entrusting us with the responsibility of hosting this prestigious event,” Hockey India secretary general Bhola Nath Singh stated.
