Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine has taken on a role as an assistant coach with the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Adelaide Strikers’ head coach, Jason Gillespie, considers the addition of Paine to be a significant acquisition for the team. Paine retired from first-class cricket at the conclusion of the previous season. In addition to his coaching role with the Strikers, he is also involved as a part-time coach for the Australian U19s and the Australia A team. The Australia A team is scheduled to play against New Zealand A in an upcoming series.

“Tim has all the skills to be a fantastic coach,” Gillespie stated in a statement on Friday.
“The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play.”

Paine’s coaching responsibilities include collaborating with his former Australian teammate and current Western Australia and Perth Scorchers coach, Adam Voges, for the red-ball segment of the Australia A series. Voges had expressed his enthusiasm about having Paine join the coaching staff earlier in the month.

“I have had a fair bit to do with Tim over the journey and I’m really excited for him to start to dip his toe into coaching post-career and looking forward to him being around the group,” Voges stated.
“To have a former Australian captain in amongst it and to be able to lean on him and for him to provide that experience to a couple of the younger players I think will be great.”

Originally from Tasmania, Paine has an impressive cricketing background. He led the Australian Test team in 23 of the 35 Tests he played. Notably, Paine also has experience with the Hobart Hurricanes, featuring in 44 matches and captaining the team 25 times.

Paine’s transition into coaching, particularly in his roles with the Adelaide Strikers and the Australian developmental teams, reflects his ongoing involvement in cricket and his commitment to contributing to the sport’s growth and development.
