Indian archers ended a 13-year medal drought in the recurve section at the Asian Games as the women’s team secured a bronze medal. The team consisted of Ankita Bhakat, Simranjeet Kaur, and Bhajan Kaur, and they defeated Vietnam in the competition.

Despite being considered underdogs, the fifth-seeded Indian women’s trio put up a strong performance, defeating their Vietnamese counterparts, Do Thi Anh Nguyet, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhi, and Hoang Phuong Thao, with a score of 6-2 (56-52, 55-56, 57-50, 51-48).

This bronze medal marked India’s seventh medal overall in archery at the Asian Games. They had previously won three team gold medals in the compound, mixed, women’s, and men’s sections.

In addition to the team’s success, Indian archers Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale were competing for a top-two finish in the compound individual section, setting up an all-India final. Jyothi Surekha Vennam also advanced to the women’s compound individual final, ensuring at least a silver medal.

This bronze medal in the Olympic category in recurve archery was India’s first at the Asian Games since Guangzhou 2010. The last time India had won a medal in the recurve category at the Asian Games was in 2010 when they secured an individual silver and team bronze medals in both men’s and women’s team events.
