Tusharkanti Behera, the Sports and Youth Services Minister of Odisha, honored javelin star Kishore Kumar Jena at the Tennis Centre in the Kalinga Sports Complex for his outstanding performance at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Kishore Kumar Jena achieved a remarkable feat at the Asian Games by winning the silver medal with a personal best throw of 87.54 meters. This achievement also secured his place in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The only athlete who surpassed him in the event was his fellow Indian teammate, Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Director of Sports Siddhartha Das, Chairman of the Hockey Promotion Council Dilip Tirkey, officials from the Odisha Olympic Association and Sports Department, as well as coaches and athletes from the DSYS Sports ecosystem.
“Kishore Kumar Jena’s hard work and dedication have truly shone a spotlight on sports in Odisha, making us all incredibly proud. He has made exceptional growth as an athlete in the last few years and stands as a shining example for our youth, showing them that with determination, anything is possible. I am certain he will bring many more accolades to India and Odisha including the upcoming Paris Olympics in 2024,” he stated.
Minister Tusharkanti Behera praised Kishore Kumar Jena as an inspiration, acknowledging his hard work and the international recognition he has brought to the state of Odisha. The Minister also took the opportunity to promise comprehensive support to Jena in his preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

India had a historic performance at the Asian Games, achieving its best-ever results with a total of 107 medals, including 28 gold medals.
