South Africa made cricket history by hitting a remarkable 15 sixes in a World Cup game against New Zealand in Pune. This achievement broke the record for the most sixes in a single World Cup edition, surpassing the previous record of 76 sixes held by England, which they accomplished during the 2019 World Cup.

Notably, England took 11 innings to reach their record of 76 sixes, whereas South Africa achieved this feat in just seven innings. The South African team began their innings with 67 sixes and went on to break the record with a flurry of sixes, including three from Quinton de Kock, five from Rassie van der Dussen, four from David Miller, and one each from Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and Temba Bavuma. In total, the team amassed 82 sixes by the end of their innings.

South Africa’s impressive performance in terms of hitting sixes has positioned them as one of the top contenders in the World Cup. With at least two more games left in the tournament, they have a chance to further extend their record and leave a lasting mark in the competition.

The previous record for the next-best six-haul in a World Cup edition was held by the West Indies, who hit 68 sixes during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. South Africa’s achievement underscores their power-hitting ability and adds excitement to the ongoing World Cup tournament.
