Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, expressed relief after their 35-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, breaking their six-game losing streak. He highlighted the team’s recent performances, emphasizing their resilience despite close losses in previous matches. Du Plessis stressed the importance of winning matches to build confidence within the group, emphasizing that performances are what truly instill confidence.
“You can’t speak confidence into the group, can’t fake confidence into the group. Only thing that gives confidence is performances,” he stated at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Virat Kohli’s consistent batting performance continued with another fifty, while Rajat Paidar was named Player of the Match for his rapid half-century. Du Plessis praised the team’s collective effort with the bat, particularly highlighting Camron Green’s contribution.
“The competition is so strong, the teams are so strong that you’ll get hurt if you’re not at 100 percent. More guys are scoring runs now. First half of the tournament only Virat was scoring runs. Greeny scoring runs now will be massive for him.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad, chasing a target of 207 runs, struggled as they lost wickets regularly due to their aggressive batting style. Despite their efforts, they finished at 171/8, falling short by 35 runs. SRH captain Pat Cummins acknowledged the team’s below-par performance with the ball and lamented the loss of wickets during their innings. He reflected on the team’s strategy of batting first, which had been successful in previous matches.
“Not an ideal night. Few over par with the ball and unfortunately lost a few wickets throughout our innings. We were gonna bat first, it seems to be working for us. Before the last few wins, we were thinking that we were a bowl-first team,” SRH captain Pat Cummins.
Cummins remained optimistic about his team’s performance, acknowledging that losses are part of T20 cricket and urged his team not to dwell on the defeat. He affirmed their commitment to their aggressive batting approach, indicating that they would not abandon it after one loss.
