In a thrilling encounter at the Harare Sports Club, Team India showcased their dominance, leveling the five-match T20I series 1-1 against Zimbabwe with a commanding 100-run victory in the second T20I. After winning the toss, Indian skipper Shubman Gill elected to bat first, a decision that paid off handsomely as India posted a formidable total of 234/2 in their 20 overs.
The Indian innings was spearheaded by a blistering century from Abhishek Sharma, who put on a spectacular display of power hitting. He was ably supported by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who also contributed significantly to the scoreboard. The late fireworks were provided by Rinku Singh, who played a quickfire knock of 48 runs from just 22 balls, striking at a phenomenal rate of 218.18, including five sixes and two fours. Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, with Blessing Muzarabani and Wellington Masakadza each managing to take a wicket.
“The world champions will eventually play like world champions. Dropping catches today certainly hurt us today. I expected 200 on this wicket today but they got 30 runs more. Coming into the chase, I thought it would be a close game but it wasn’t to be, the top-order didn’t fire. Blessing has grown by leaps and bounds, he is very hungry and his graph will keep going up as long as he stays fit. It’s a task we have been talking about since a long time, today we came out positive and played our shots, lot of the issues occurred due to inexperience,” he stated.
In response, Zimbabwe faced an uphill task of chasing down 235 runs. The hosts were bundled out for 134 runs in 18.4 overs. Opener Wessly Madhevere was the top scorer for Zimbabwe with a resilient 43 runs off 39 balls, including three fours and a six. All-rounder Luke Jongwe also tried to steady the innings with a 33-run contribution off 26 balls, featuring four boundaries.
India’s bowling attack was led by the right-arm seamers Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar, both of whom were exceptional, claiming three wickets each while conceding 15 and 37 runs respectively. Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar also chipped in, with Bishnoi taking two wickets and Sundar adding one to his tally. Their disciplined and aggressive bowling ensured Zimbabwe never really got into the chase.
Following the match, Zimbabwe’s skipper Sikandar Raza acknowledged India’s superiority, praising the Men in Blue for playing like true World Champions. The comprehensive performance by the Indian team not only highlighted their batting prowess but also their capability to dominate with the ball, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of the series.
