As India prepares for the upcoming four-match T20I series against South Africa, captain Suryakumar Yadav has his sights set on breaking several records. Since making his T20I debut against England in 2021, Suryakumar has played 74 matches, amassing 2,544 runs with an impressive strike rate of 169.48 and an average of 42.40. The 34-year-old has already scored four centuries and 21 half-centuries, establishing himself as a dominant force in the shortest format of the game.
Suryakumar Yadav, a right-handed batter, last captained the Indian T20I side in a series against Bangladesh, where he accumulated 112 runs across three innings, averaging 37.33. In the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, Suryakumar is on the cusp of several records. He needs 107 more runs to surpass David Miller and become the leading run-scorer in T20I encounters between India and South Africa. Currently, he has scored 346 runs in seven T20I matches against the Proteas, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 175.63, and has recorded one century and four half-centuries.
At present, David Miller holds the top spot with 452 runs against India in 21 matches, at a strike rate of 156.94. Aside from the run-scoring milestone, Suryakumar is also poised to become the fastest player to reach 150 sixes in T20Is. He has hit 144 sixes in 74 T20I matches and will need to hit six more in the four-match series to reach this landmark.
The series will kick off on November 8 at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban. Following this, St George’s Park in Gqeberha will host the second match on November 10. The action will then move to SuperSport Park in Centurion for the third T20I on November 13, and the series will conclude with the fourth game at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 15.
