The FIH Hockey Pro League’s season 5 is set to kick off on December 6, 2023, with matches between Argentina and Great Britain in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, for both women and men teams.
This season will introduce a promotion/relegation principle for the first time, where two teams qualified through the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup will join the Pro League. India’s women’s team and Ireland’s men’s team, who earned their places in the Hockey Nations Cup, will make their debut in the Pro League. India’s women will play their first match against China, and Ireland’s men will face the Netherlands, both matches taking place in Bhubaneswar, India.
The FIH Hockey Pro League’s season 5 will consist of six “mini-tournaments” held in different countries and cities. The schedule includes the following locations and dates:
- Santiago del Estero, Argentina: December 6-11, 2023
- Buenos Aires, Argentina: February 14-19, 2024
- Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, India: February 3-25, 2024
- Antwerp, Belgium: May 22-June 2, 2024
- Lee Valley, Great Britain: June 1-12, 2024
- Utrecht and Amsterdam, Netherlands: June 22-30, 2024
A significant incentive for the teams competing in the FIH Hockey Pro League is the opportunity to qualify directly for the Women’s and Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. The champions of the season will earn this direct qualification, adding to the importance and excitement of the tournament.
Additionally, the 5th season will see India’s women’s team replacing New Zealand’s women’s team, who withdrew from the upcoming season, and Ireland’s men’s team taking the spot of New Zealand’s men’s team, who were relegated at the end of the previous season.
The FIH Hockey Pro League Season 5 promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament, with teams from different countries vying for the top spot and the opportunity to compete in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026.
