New Delhi [India], Jan 10 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has written to all the Heads of National Sports Federations (NSFs), recognised by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to provide them with information for its Sports Integrity Unit.

CBI Special Crime-II Branch head, Jagroop S Gusinha, wrote the letter saying that the newly-formed Sports Integrity Unit (SIU) will have all the jurisdiction for investigating matters relating to corruption and illegal betting in sports.

“The emergence of sports as an industry involving investment of huge sums of money on players, teams, has brought with it the ever-increasing spectrum of corruption, illegal betting and use of various forms of unfair means in order to influence the result of a game,” Gusinha said in the letter.

“Keeping in view of above, it was felt to set up Sports Integrity Unit and Special Investigation Unit.IV of CBI SC.II branch, designated as `Sports Integrity Unit’ (S.I.U.) having all India jurisdiction for investigation,” the letter added.

The details that have been asked are: Name of the Federation, Registration number, whether it is recognized by International Body and the IOA, address name and the office bearers with details, affiliated members, activities and Tournaments – State/National/International level conducted by it, achievement, difficulties.

The deadline for providing the above-mentioned details is January 17.
