Chennaiyin FC, a team in the Indian Super League (ISL), has made their first foreign player signing for the upcoming 2023-24 season. They have announced the acquisition of Australian winger Jordan Murray. Murray, who is 27 years old, played for Thai club Nakhon Ratchasima FC in the previous season. He brings a wealth of experience from his time in the A-League and Thai League.
Interestingly, Murray has previously played in the Hero Indian Super League. He made his debut in the 2020-21 season for Kerala Blasters FC before moving to Jamshedpur FC in the 2021-22 season. He won the Hero ISL Shield with Jamshedpur FC and has scored a total of 11 goals in 34 appearances over two seasons in the league.
“I’m delighted to be a part of this great club Chennaiyin FC. Can’t wait to meet the team and everyone at the club. I’m looking forward to returning to India and I’m excited to meet and play in front of the incredible Chennaiyin fans. B Stand Blues and Supermachans, get ready!” Jordan Murray said.
Chennaiyin FC has been undergoing a rebuilding phase since the departure of their former head coach, Thomas Brdraic, earlier this year. Alongside Murray, the team has signed seven Indian players so far, including goalkeeper Prateek Kumar Singh, defenders Sachu Sibu, Bijay Chhetri, and Ankit Mukherjee, midfielder Sweden Fernandes, and forwards Farukh Choudhary and Irfan Yadwad.
While Chennaiyin FC has yet to announce their new head coach, there are speculations that former Jamshedpur FC coach Owen Coyle might take over the role in the near future. The team, which has won the Indian Super League title twice, is looking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season and regain their competitive edge.
