In the recent IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), CSK faced a setback when their pacer Deepak Chahar suffered an injury while bowling. Chahar had to leave the field after delivering just two balls in his spell due to the injury. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming expressed concern about Chahar’s condition, mentioning that the initial assessment “wasn’t great” and indicating that they are awaiting further updates on his injury.

Additionally, Tushar Deshpande was sidelined from the playing eleven due to flu. Despite a commendable batting effort from CSK, with Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring 62 off 48 balls and MS Dhoni providing a late flourish, CSK could only manage to post a total of 162/7.

PBKS, in reply, chased down the target of 163 with ease, hardly facing any difficulty. Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw played pivotal roles, forging a crucial 64-run partnership that shifted the momentum in PBKS’s favor. Stand-in skipper Sam Curran’s decision to bowl first seemed to pay off as the dew factor later made it challenging for CSK bowlers during the second half of the match.

“Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. Initial feeling wasn’t great. So we are waiting for more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look. Sri Lankan boys are off to get visa. So we are hoping that their process is smooth. And we get them back for our next game up north . Richard Gleeson was good, he was positive. Tushar Deshpande got flu, so we had to make a few changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that’s part of it and we have got resources. It’s just they haven’t got time to be comfortable about their roles and us to be comfortable with the game plan that we are struggling with,” Fleming stated.

Ultimately, PBKS emerged victorious with a convincing 7-wicket win, with Curran and Shashank Singh contributing to the successful chase.

The match witnessed contrasting fortunes for both teams, with PBKS dominating the chase while CSK struggled to contain them, resulting in a comprehensive victory for PBKS.
