Abhinav Bindra, the Olympic gold medalist, expressed immense pride and honor after carrying the Olympic flame in the Paris 2024 Torch Relay. This event holds significant meaning for Bindra, reflecting his deep connection to the Olympic spirit. Additionally, badminton star PV Sindhu and table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal will lead the Indian contingent at the Paris 2024 Parade of Nations, marking a historic moment as they become the first athletes from their respective sports to be India’s flag-bearers at such a prestigious event.

A 29-member athletics team, led by Neeraj Chopra, represents a substantial portion of the Indian contingent heading to France for the Olympics. Notably, India will also be sending its largest-ever shooting team to the Games, comprising 21 members. This surpasses the previous record set at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where India sent 15 shooters. Among the athletes competing in Paris are prominent archers like Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, who will kick off their individual ranking rounds on July 25, a day before the opening ceremony.

India will have an early opportunity to secure a medal in the mixed team air rifle event on July 27 at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux. Two Indian pairs, Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal, will compete in this event. Additionally, Manu Bhaker will participate in two individual pistol events and the 10 m air pistol mixed team competition, further boosting India’s chances for a podium finish.

The latter part of the Olympics will witness top Indian athletes in action, with reigning Olympic and World champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra competing in August. The men’s javelin throw qualifiers are scheduled for August 6, with the final set to take place two days later. PV Sindhu, aiming for a third Olympic medal, will participate in badminton events from July 27 to August 5. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, a silver medalist from Tokyo 2020, will compete in the women’s 49 kg category on August 7. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze in Tokyo, will compete in events from July 27 to August 10. Additionally, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen is poised to make her Olympic debut, offering a promising medal prospect for India.

India’s participation in Paris 2024 spans 16 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis. The country aims to surpass its Tokyo 2020 medal tally of seven, which included one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes. Indian viewers can watch the Olympics on Sports18 1 SD and Sports18 1 HD TV channels, with live streaming available for free on Jio Cinema, ensuring extensive coverage of this premier sports event.
