Hyderabad FC, a club in the Indian Super League, announced the signing of Finnish midfielder Petteri Pennanen on Sunday. The 32-year-old midfielder, with an impressive career of over 380 appearances, has joined HFC on a one-year deal for the 2023-24 season.

“I’m really happy to sign for the club and looking forward to the new season,” stated Pennanen. “We have a group of exciting youngsters with a nice mix of experienced players so I am sure we will have a great season ahead of us if we work hard every day,” he added.

Petteri Pennanen began his football journey in Kuopion Palloseura’s academy in Finland. He has been a prominent figure in Finnish football, making over 300 league appearances across various divisions in the country.

Throughout his career, Pennanen has played in different countries, including the Netherlands, Poland, Indonesia, and the United States.

He has also represented the Finnish National Team and received recognition for his performances in the Veikkausliiga, the top-flight league in Finland. He was named in the Team of the Year for consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, and he received the Veikkausliiga’s Midfielder of the Year award in 2018, 2019, and 2022. In recent seasons, Pennanen showcased excellent form while playing for Tampereen Ilves, where he also served as the captain.

“I promise I will give everything I have every single moment I step on the field. I like to keep the ball and my biggest strength is my passing and I hope I can add a few goals as well to my game,” he stated.

Pennanen is the third overseas signing for Hyderabad FC, following Australian Joe Knowles and Costa Rican Jonathan Moya. The club aims to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 campaign in the Indian Super League.
