The Indian junior team’s run in the team event of the prestigious Badminton Asia Junior Championships ended with a 3-1 defeat against Indonesia in the quarterfinals held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In the mixed doubles match, Samarveer and Radhika couldn’t overcome their Indonesian opponents, Adrian and Felisha, losing with a score of 16-21, 15-21. This gave Indonesia a 1-0 lead in the overall tie.
Ayush Shetty displayed remarkable resilience and skill in a thrilling boys’ singles badminton match against Alwi Farhan. Despite a hard-fought battle, Shetty narrowly lost with a score of 21-18, 15-21, 19-21, further extending Indonesia’s advantage. However, Rakshitha Sree S brought back hope for India with her exceptional performance in a thrilling girls’ singles match against Ruzana. She showed incredible composure and determination, securing a victory with a hard-fought score of 21-18, 10-21, 23-21. This narrowed the score to 2-1 in favor of Indonesia.
Unfortunately, in the boys’ doubles event, Divyam and Mayank faced tough competition from Indonesia’s Muhammad and Joaquin. Despite their best efforts, the Indian pair succumbed to a 10-21, 21-15, 12-21 defeat. With this loss, the Indian team’s journey in the team event concluded.
Although their team event has come to an end, the young Indian players will now shift their focus to the individual campaign, which is set to begin on July 12.
