The Indian Women’s Hockey Team has departed to participate in the Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier, scheduled to take place from August 25th to 28th in Salalah, Oman.
The team has been grouped in the Elite Pool, alongside Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand. The Challengers Pool comprises teams such as Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, and Oman.
The squad, under the leadership of Captain Navjot Kaur and Vice-Captain Jyoti, includes goalkeeper Bansari Solanki. Defenders Akshata Abaso Dhekale, Mahima Chaudhary, and Sonia Devi Kshetrimayum are set to contribute, while Captain Navjot Kaur and Ajmina Kujur will command the midfield. Forwards Mariana Kujur, Jyoti, and Dipi Monika Toppo complete the lineup.
India aims to secure a spot in the Semi-Finals by competing against other Elite Pool teams. Their schedule includes matches against Malaysia on August 25th, Japan on August 26th, and Thailand on August 27th. The team’s coach, Soundarya Yendala, expressed excitement for the tournament and emphasized their preparation and hard work.
Captain Navjot Kaur is optimistic about India’s chances in the Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier, acknowledging the challenge posed by strong opponents in their pool. However, she remains confident in the team’s dedicated preparation and aims to bring home medals from the tournament.
