Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stellar performance for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) not only propelled his team to victory but also marked a significant milestone in his career. Gaikwad surpassed Michael Hussey to become the fourth-highest run-scorer in CSK’s history during their recent IPL clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gaikwad’s remarkable achievement was complemented by yet another classy knock, where he scored 98 runs off just 54 balls, showcasing his ability with 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate exceeding 181.
In his 61 matches for CSK, Gaikwad has amassed 2,244 runs at an impressive average of 42.33 and a strike rate of 138.09, including two centuries and 17 fifties, with his highest score being an unbeaten 108*. Comparatively, Hussey, who played 64 games for CSK from 2008 to 2015, accumulated 2,213 runs at an average of 40.98 and a strike rate of 122.80, with a century and 17 fifties, and a highest score of 116*.
However, the top run-scorer for CSK in T20 cricket remains Suresh Raina, who boasts 5,529 runs in 200 matches and 195 innings, with an average of 33.10 and a strike rate of 138.91, featuring two centuries and 38 fifties, and a highest score of 109*.

In the recent match, Gaikwad’s half-century, along with contributions from Daryl Mitchell and a fine cameo by Shivam Dube, powered CSK to a formidable total of 212/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a valiant effort from Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen in the run-chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad fell short and were bundled out for 134 in 18.5 overs, with Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana, and Mustafizur Rahman shining with the ball. Gaikwad’s outstanding performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match‘ award.
With five wins and four losses each, CSK and SRH occupy the third and fourth spots, respectively, in the IPL 2024 points table, each team having accumulated 10 points.
