In a significant step towards women’s safety and empowerment, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has mandated that all gyms, swimming pools, and yoga centers in the district must employ female trainers. This directive follows a recommendation by the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and was officially issued by the district’s sports department. The order also includes measures for tighter regulation, such as requiring all trainers to carry Aadhaar cards for identification and the installation of CCTVs and digital video recorders for enhanced surveillance. These actions are part of a broader initiative to improve job opportunities for women and create safer, more welcoming spaces for them.
The decision is a direct response to numerous safety concerns raised by women, leading the administration to act decisively. Anita Nagar, the sports officer for Gautam Buddh Nagar, confirmed that the rule applies to a wide range of establishments, including hotels, schools, societies, and other venues that feature gyms, swimming pools, or yoga centers. Female trainers will work alongside existing male trainers to ensure a balanced and secure environment. The new regulation is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance women’s safety in public spaces and follows the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission’s 2024 guidelines, which emphasize the need for female trainers in fitness centers and propose other measures to protect women in public places.
Furthermore, the administration is continuing its crackdown on illegal fitness centers, with 198 unauthorised gyms, swimming pools, and yoga centers having been shut down last year. The sports department has committed to continued action against such illegal operations. This new mandate for female trainers, alongside stricter regulations for unauthorized fitness establishments, reflects the government’s commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for women in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
