Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta has a long-standing relationship with the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) in Atlanta, providing medical coverage for the ATP events for over two decades. They have been serving as the Official Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Provider for the Atlanta tournaments, including this year’s ATP 250 event, the 2023 Atlanta Open. The Atlanta Open is part of the U.S. Open Series and features both former and current ATP World Tour top-20 players.

While ATP physiotherapists are present at all ATP events, they work collaboratively with OrthoAtlanta physicians to ensure the best possible medical care and treatment for all players. OrthoAtlanta sports medicine physicians are on-site throughout the tournament, offering care for players, staff, and volunteers during the event.

“We’re honored to once again be there to support the ATP and the world class athletes as they compete in the Atlanta Open,” stated Snehal Dalal, M.D. “Our role with the tournament is an important one, as we ensure all competitors and staff are safe, and in the event of an injury, we’re there to provide best-practice treatments for sports-related injuries,” stated Donald Fowler, M.D. Physicians Dalal and Fowler have provided medical coverage for the ATP for more than 10 years and now serve as Co Medical Directors for the ATP tournament in Atlanta.

In addition to their sports medicine coverage for the tournament, OrthoAtlanta has taken on the title role of Official Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Provider of the Women’s Sunday Showdown. This provides an opportunity for OrthoAtlanta to recognize and highlight the contributions of female providers who take care of female athletes. The organization has a specific interest in the care and prevention of athletic injuries in female athletics across the state.

“The Atlanta Open players, coaches and officials rely on OrthoAtlanta to provide superior orthopedic and sports medicine care throughout the tournament,” said Atlanta Open Tournament Director Peter Lebedevs. “The Atlanta Open brings world-class athletes to Atlanta and we are proud to have a world-class partner in OrthoAtlanta.”

OrthoAtlanta employs eight female physicians and more than 45 other female healthcare providers, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physical therapists. The focus is on providing comprehensive care for female athletes, ranging from acute or chronic injury management to bone density studies, nutritional consultations, and sport psychology referrals as needed.

During the Sunday Showdown match between WTA’s No. 7-ranked player Coco Gauff and No. 95-ranked player Leylah Fernandez, the female physicians of OrthoAtlanta will be recognized for their contributions to sports medicine and their commitment to supporting female athletes.

Overall, OrthoAtlanta’s partnership with the ATP and their involvement in the Women’s Sunday Showdown demonstrates their dedication to providing top-notch sports medicine care and their commitment to supporting athletes at all levels, particularly female athletes.
