In a thrilling match between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Delhi Capitals (DC), DC emerged victorious, securing their sixth win of the season and keeping their playoffs hopes alive. The standout feature of the match was a remarkable performance by Sanju Samson, the RR skipper, whose masterclass nearly secured the win for his team. However, DC’s bowlers maintained their nerve in the final moments of the game, denying RR the victory.
The match began with RR winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. DC’s young batsmen, Jake Fraser McGurk and Abhishek Porel, along with a lively contribution from Tristan Stubbs, propelled their team to a competitive total of 221/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin stood out as the top bowler for RR with an impressive performance.
In the chase, RR faced an early setback with the loss of their openers. However, Sanju Samson, along with Riyan Parag and Shubham Dubey, kept RR in contention with some determined batting. Unfortunately for RR, the dismissal of Samson proved to be a turning point in the game, ultimately leading to their defeat.
Rishabh stated after the game, “The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our head down and keep moving forward. As always Kuldeep delivered which was great to see. It was close to par and at the same time we were thinking that if we can restrict them to 200 that would be fair and that was the thought process.”
DC’s bowlers, including Kuldeep, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, delivered crucial performances, taking two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Rashikh Dar Salam chipped in with one wicket apiece. Kuldeep’s impactful spell earned him the Player of the Match award.
Following this win, DC climbed to fifth place in the standings with six wins, six losses, and 12 points, enhancing their chances of reaching the playoffs. RR, despite the loss, maintained their strong position in second place with eight wins, three losses, and 16 points.
