PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen are both accomplished badminton players and it’s exciting to see them leading the Indian challenge at the US Open 2023. The tournament is part of the BWF World Tour 2023 calendar and is classified as a BWF Super 300 event.
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, has had a solid performance in recent tournaments, reaching the semi-finals of the Canada Open and the Madrid Spain Masters earlier in the year. Although she hasn’t won a BWF World Tour event this year, she remains a formidable contender. In the US Open, she will start her campaign against a qualifier.
Lakshya Sen, the Commonwealth Games 2022 champion, is coming into the tournament on a high note after winning the Canada Open 2023 men’s singles title. He defeated Li Shi Feng, the reigning All England Open champion, in the final. Ranked 19th in the world, Lakshya Sen is a rising star in Indian badminton. In the US Open, he will face Kalle Koljonen of Finland in the round of 32.
In addition to Sindhu and Sen, there are other Indian players participating in the tournament. Gadde Ruthvika Shivani will join Sindhu in the women’s singles main draw, while Imad Farooqui Samiya will start her campaign from the qualifiers. In the men’s singles, B Sai Praneeth will also compete in the main draw, and Parupalli Kashyap and S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian will begin in the qualifiers.
Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala will represent India in the men’s doubles, as the star duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be absent from the tournament. The Indian pair will face Lin Yu Chieh and Su Li Wei of Chinese Taipei in their opening match. In the women’s doubles, Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda, as well as Apeksha Nayak and Ramya Chickmenhalli Venkatesh, will compete in the main draw.
The US Open 2023 will take place at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. All matches of the tournament will be live-streamed, providing fans the opportunity to watch the action online.
