Former New Zealand head coach and current RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, has expressed confidence in Rajat Patidar’s potential to earn another opportunity to represent India at the highest level. Hesson’s endorsement follows Patidar’s impressive performance against SunRisers Hyderabad, where he delivered a match-winning 19-ball fifty, showcasing his class and ability on the field. Patidar’s explosive innings, marked by five sixes, underscored his prowess as a batsman, particularly against spin bowling, as evidenced by his assault on leg-spinner Mayank Markande.
“Absolute stand-out on the day from both sides. Rajat Patidar, pretty much, hit everything out of the middle. A 19-ball fifty on a surface where pretty much the rest of the batters struggled, particularly after the powerplay, added a whole lot of momentum.”
In the company of Virat Kohli, Patidar formed a crucial 65-run partnership, with Patidar being the dominant scorer, while Kohli faced difficulties after the powerplay. Despite Patidar’s struggles in his debut Test series against England earlier, where he failed to capitalize on promising starts, Hesson remains steadfast in his belief in Patidar’s abilities.
“He has a lot of class. He is a fine player. Although he has not quite clicked for India yet, I hope he gets another opportunity, I am sure he will, he is a fine player,” Mike Hesson stated.
“Absolutely, uninhibited swing, uninhibited attitude. And that oozes class. He bought into being aggressive, almost beating SunRisers in their own game. I thought he was definitely the difference in the match tonight,” Morgan attached.
Former England captain Eoin Morgan echoed Hesson’s sentiments, emphasizing Patidar’s impact with the bat, particularly his ability to counterattack and accelerate the scoring rate. Patidar’s consistent performances, including three fifties in nine matches with an impressive strike rate of 175, further bolster his case for future opportunities on the international stage.
