South African and Sri Lankan Cricket Stars Vie for ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award for September 2023. The ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award for September 2023 features three standout candidates:
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa):
Wolvaardt, the stylish right-handed batter, had an outstanding month with the bat. She led her team to an ODI victory over Pakistan in her new role as captain. Additionally, she played brilliant innings of 50 and an unbeaten 124* against New Zealand on home soil. Wolvaardt scored a total of 204 ODI runs at an average of 51 and 157 runs in T20Is at an even better average of 52.33 during the month.
Nadine de Klerk (South Africa):
The emerging all-rounder from South Africa made significant contributions with both bat and ball in September. De Klerk scored a superb half-century in the final match of the series against Pakistan and followed it up with an unbeaten 58* in the opening game of the series against New Zealand. She also shone with the ball, especially in the second game against Pakistan, where she collected 4/32 from eight overs.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka):
Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan spinner and leader, played a crucial role in her team’s upset series triumph over England away from home. While her batting performance in that series wasn’t at its best, she made up for it with standout performances in T20Is. She scored a half-century against England and continued her good form at the Asia Cup later in September against Thailand, Pakistan, and India.
These three players have showcased their exceptional skills and contributed significantly to their respective teams during the month of September 2023. The ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award will recognize one of them for their outstanding performances.
