Former Indian cricketer and current National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman praised the Indian cricket team’s grand victory parade following their ICC T20 World Cup win, highlighting its role in uniting people and spreading joy across the nation. The celebration started after the team met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and then traveled to Mumbai for a memorable open bus victory parade from Marine Drive to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The parade was a spectacular event, drawing thousands of enthusiastic fans who surrounded the bus even before the players boarded.
As the team made its way to Wankhede, they were met with continuous cheers, chants, and applause from passionate fans. Upon arrival at the stadium, the players were felicitated with a prize money of Rs 125 crores by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office-bearers. The celebration at Wankhede was filled with joy as players spoke about their win and the standout performances in the T20 World Cup. The event also featured a victory lap by the players to the tune of the national song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ and an energetic dance performance by the team.
VVS Laxman expressed his admiration for the scenes in Mumbai on social media platform X, stating, “Spectacular scenes from Mumbai. This is what Sport does, unite people and give them so much to cheer about and spread joy. Thanking our team once again for giving so many of our countrymen so much joy and happiness. Earlier on Thursday morning, the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team received a warm welcome upon their arrival in the national capital, Delhi. Fans eagerly awaited to catch a glimpse of their heroes and the coveted trophy. The flight, organized by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, departed from hurricane-struck Barbados on July 2 and arrived in Delhi at around 6:00 AM. The flight included board officials and members of the media contingent from the tournament.
India’s victory in the final against South Africa ended a 13-year ICC World Cup trophy drought. The Men in Blue triumphed by seven runs, with Virat Kohli‘s crucial 76 helping India post a total of 176/7. Hardik Pandya (3/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) played key roles in restricting South Africa to 169/8, despite a valiant 52 off 27 balls by Heinrich Klaasen. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament, taking 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.17, earned him the ‘Player of the Tournament’ honors.
