The Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 trophy has arrived in Chennai and is set to go on a statewide tour across Tamil Nadu, starting from Kanyakumari. The tour will showcase the prestigious trophy at various locations leading up to the tournament’s start on 3rd August 2023.

The trophy tour, known as ‘Pass the Ball,’ has already traveled through several cities, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Guwahati, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Bangalore in just 7 days before reaching Chennai. The initiative aims to promote the sport of hockey and generate excitement for the upcoming championship.

Hockey India, in partnership with the Tamil Nadu State government, is also supporting the FIH’s initiative called “Giving Back to Forest,” which focuses on environmental conservation. As part of this effort, 1000 saplings were distributed during the Kanyakumari leg of the trophy tour, and over 3,000 saplings were distributed and planted on another occasion. The overall goal is to distribute and plant more than 100,000 saplings throughout the Tamil Nadu leg of the Trophy tour, reflecting the federation’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Talking on the successful nationwide tour, and the start of the Tamil Nadu Trophy Tour, Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey stated, “The Trophy Tour campaign across India saw a tremendous response from hockey fans, budding hockey players, our hockey legends and the present dignitaries. I offer my deepest gratitude to everyone for making the nationwide trophy tour for the Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 a massive success. Now, the trophy has reached the host city of the prestigious tournament and will travel across the beautiful state of Tamil Nadu, before the start of the tournament and we are excited to showcase a glimpse of the magnificent trophy to the hockey fans in the state.” 

The trophy will continue its journey through various cities in Tamil Nadu, including Tirunelveli, Tenkasim, Kovilpatti, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Puducherry, and many others, before returning to Chennai on 31st July. On 1st August, the trophy will be handed over to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin.

The Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 will be broadcast live on Star Sports and Fancode, with live streaming available on watch. hockey for viewers outside of India. The tournament will feature top teams from Asia, including India, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, and China, competing for the coveted title.
