In the second semi-final match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, India secured a commanding 68-run victory over England. Axar Patel was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional performance, taking three wickets for 23 runs in his four-over spell at an impressive economy rate of 5.80. Reflecting on his performance, Axar mentioned that the slow pitch at Providence Stadium in Guyana influenced his decision to avoid bowling quicker, which contributed to his success.

Axar also lauded the brilliant partnership between Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, describing it as magnificent. The match began with England winning the toss and opting to bowl first against Rohit Sharma’s India.

“I have bowled in the powerplay in the past, so I had to bowl in the powerplay, that was the plan. The wicket was stopping and keeping low, so tried to bowl in the right areas. The wicket was slow, so I tried to bowl slower in this match, it worked for me. Wouldn’t have worked had I bowled quicker, would have been easier for their batters. Our batters told us that the wicket wasn’t easy, so 160 was a good total according to us. That partnership was magnificent, they scored the occasional boundaries and rotated the strike. Not thinking about Barbados at the moment, will celebrate this player of the match award first,” Axar stated.

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav’s crucial contributions helped India post a total of 171/7. They were well-supported by Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, who played pivotal roles in the first innings. England’s bowling attack was led by Chris Jordan, who took three wickets for 37 runs in his three-over spell.

During the run chase, England struggled to adapt to the surface and were eventually bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs. Harry Brook and Jos Buttler were the only notable performers with the bat for England. India’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, both of whom took three wickets each, played a crucial role in securing the victory. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed by taking two wickets while defending the target of 172 runs.

With this victory, the stage is set for an exciting final between the unbeaten teams, India and South Africa, which will take place in Barbados on Saturday.
