Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked 53rd in the world, achieved a significant victory at the Stockholm Open by defeating the top seed and defending champion, Holger Rune. Kecmanovic’s performance was dominant, as he won with a score of 7-6(3), 6-2, earning him a spot in the quarterfinals. His style of aggressive yet consistent play on the center court in Stockholm proved to be a challenge for Rune.

Kecmanovic displayed excellent stats during the match, finishing with 19 winners and only five unforced errors. He also capitalized on all three of his break point opportunities in the second set, making up for the five he missed in the first set. Although Rune managed to break Kecmanovic’s serve in the opening game of the second set, he was subsequently broken himself and couldn’t regain his top form as the match progressed.

“I thought I played pretty well today after a long period this year. I’m very happy. It means a lot to finally be able to play like this. It makes it special [to beat the World No. 6]. I was close with some other [top] guys this year but I’m happy that I was finally able to do it,” Kecmanovic was quoted as saying by ATP.

“I was very happy. Marton is a very good player, always a tricky opponent. [I had to] just believe that I’m going to win and try to stay positive, play my game. Obviously, I was running quite good and hitting big balls. It was a little bit of a struggle at the beginning to impose my power and then I felt I was doing it pretty good,” Monfils stated.

In another singles match at the Stockholm Open, Gael Monfils faced Marton Fucsovics in a three-set battle. Monfils, a French player, had to come back from a 2-6 deficit in the first set, ultimately winning the match with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Monfils hit 27 winners during the match and secured victory with a break in the final game. His next opponent in the tournament will be Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic, with the winner earning a place in the quarterfinals.
