On the cold and foggy Sunday morning, a group of 70 cyclists from Delhi traveled around the city covering a distance of 26 km. The event was launched by restaurateur and entrepreneur Navneet Kalra and his wife, Kitty Kalra who is a known fitness enthusiast, after the success of their first cycling event in December.
“Last time we had over 50 participants in the cyclothon and this time the number was even bigger. We had over 70 cyclists participating in the event. It was not just our friends and people from our cycling group, but we had participants from other cycling groups as well,” commented Navneet. He added that for the last few months, he and his cyclist friends have been meeting daily every week for cycling.
“While we keep doing such cyclothons to make more people participate and spread the word about it, our group meets four times a week to ride nearby Delhi. The idea is to encourage cycling as the best and safe fitness activity, particularly at this point when most people have still not continued going to gyms. One of the most economical modes of transport is today one of the most famous modes of fitness and we want to urge more people to choose cycling,” says Navneet.
Former Indian cricketer RP Singh participated in the cyclothon that was organized last Sunday. “We expect to have more such cyclothons in the future and we are assuming that more people will come forward to participate,” adds Navneet.
