Being the first US based sports Team, San Francisco 49ers of The National Football League have rolled out a real-time stadium operations systems at their stadium in order to improve fans experience.
In order to enrich fan experience the 49ers’ front office executives can manage Levi Stadium’s operation from digital boardroom backed by German software giant SAP.
The real time mechanism features a multi-screen dashboard which keeps an eye or tracks operation going at the venue across data sources including attendance, parking, food and beverage, retail, weather, ticketing and social media.
The curated data can be now transferred by the stadium managers to the 3500 employees at the venue during game days at the 70,000 seater venue in order to resolve any issue.
With the streaming data, 49ers can solve problematic situation with more ease like if the real time data shoes that there is much probability that a car park is filling quicker than expected, staff can amend signage or direct fans to another more spacious zone.
“It really is a big challenge to operate a stadium on game day,” said Moon Javaid, vice president of strategy and analytics for the 49ers, speaking to Forbes. “We have a lot of temporary labour, thousands of employees who have never been here before, 600 points of sale, 50 restrooms. To create a seamless customer experience is a big challenge.
“There definitely isn’t another operations control room like we have. You might have a control room that is for security or communications, but what we are doing is identifying those pockets of challenges and helping to solve them.”
SAP first partnered with the 49ers in 2012 as a founding partner of Levi’s Stadium and as the franchise’s exclusive business software partner. The company already uses its connected stadium system in Europe at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, but now has plans to make use of the technology at venues across the US.
“The vision for this was focused on improving the fan experience opposed to operating the venue,” added Mark Lehew, global vice president of sports and entertainment at SAP, also speaking to Forbes. “That is a lot different than a lot of the other control rooms I have seen.”
