Welcome to the real world! The Coronavirus and its consequences aren’t something to be trifled with. No, not at all. What’s more, as a gym owner, manager or administrator, it’s time to spring into action, and maintain and preserve the health of your patrons, members and employees, while maintaining the overall hygiene of your fitness establishment in the face of this pandemic!
But how do you go about that? Well, all of us at Gym Consultants India have put our minds together and have come up with some essential and easy things you as a gym owner can do to help us triumph over our universal enemy – Covid 19. Here they are:
Soap and disinfectants: Soaps and detergents with water can help clean and cleanse your gym equipment and establishment – they can help you get rid of germs, but not kill them! Disinfectants on the other hand can help kill germs. We therefore suggest that you regularly clean your equipment and premises with soap detergents, and then proceed to use disinfectants to complete the job! This will help lower the risk of spreading infection.
Cleaning: Use a mild dish soap and water in a 1:10 proportion as a cleaning agent, if that isn’t an option, resort to using cleaning wipes on gym machines. Still another option is to use vinegar and water in a 1:20 proportion. Now, apply the cleaner on the equipment with a cloth, and use a seperate cloth to wipe the equipment after this. A word of caution, please avoid spraying cleaners on the equipment, as this may result in harm to electronic parts or even corrosion.
Killing: Before proceeding to the disinfectant stage, ensure that you have wiped down the equipment from the cleaning stage. Next, take care to make sure that the disinfectant you use is suitable for the surface you are intending to use it on. Also, please follow the prescribed dilution proportions by the disinfectant manufacturers. Incorrect dilution can result in dulled surfaces and sometimes even in corrosion. After application, be sure to remove the disinfectant after anywhere from three to five minutes, as not doing so can result in corrosion as well.
Electronic equipment: A gym is full of electronic equipment that’s touched multiple times, and by multiple users – we all know which ones these are! Use disinfecting wipes to regularly wipe down these areas, use more than one wipe at a time if necessary.
Cleansing Cadence: All equipment should be cleaned before and after each use. On the other hand , you can disinfect equipment once or two times a day. However, this is the bare minimum, in light of the Coronavirus, it’s imperative that you step up these actions as you seem fit, and in relation to the traffic at your establishment.
A couple of extras: We implore you to follow the cleaning product and disinfectant manufacturers’ instructions for the use of their products – also remember to consult the gym equipment manufacturer for any questions you might have. Please also ensure that you use protective clothing such as masks and gloves while carrying out the cleaning and disinfecting of equipment.
We do hope you found this post useful. Please be safe, act responsibly, and let’s defeat Covid-19 together!
