In violation of the Standing Operative Procedures (SOPs) published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare concerning the pandemic COVID-19, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has failed to develop a mechanism for sanitization of gym equipment fixed in 50 parks of the Jammu city.

In the SOPs, the Union Ministry has organized enough pressure on the sanitization of gym equipment wherever placed as many people use the same and can become the cause for the spread of COVID-19 if not disinfected adequately after frequent periods.

To implant a habit of fitness among the city citizens, the Jammu Municipal Corporation recently has decided to introduce “open gyms” in the parks in all the 75 wards irrespective of the same being supported by the Corporation, Jammu Development Authority, and Floriculture Department.

Now, open gyms have been established in 50 parks while the method is on to establish fitness equipment in the remaining 25 parks. As per the contract entered between JMC and the company involved in establishing open gyms, the maintenance part will be examined following.

This fitness equipment will be used by many people in the morning and the evening hours and can become a source for the spread of COVID-19. The Jammu Municipal Corporation has declined to develop a mechanism for proper and systematic sanitization of gym equipment.
