Two Indian Karatekas viz. Aniket Gupta and Deepika Dhiman have left for Istanbul Turkey to take part in the World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1 Premier League scheduled to be held from 12th to 14th March in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to WKF official website, nearly 600 karatekas from 72 countries are registered to participate in the event. Seven Grand Winners including local star Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu and World title-holders Sandra Sanchez of Spain and Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan and no less than nine World champions such as Jonathan Horne of Germany and Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh of Iran have confirmed their presence in Istanbul.
The website further reports, the city of Istanbul in Turkey will become Karate’s capital from March 12 to 14, as the first international event after the pandemic outbreak will take place there. Expectations are running high among the whole Karate family since the wait is finally over.
Aniket and Deepika are both working in Income Tax Department, (Ministry of Finance, Government of India).
Based on his/her present World Ranking, he/she has been selected to represent India in the forthcoming World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1 Premier League season 2021 and Tokyo Olympic Games Standing Qualification Events have been scheduled at Turkey, Morocco, Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Russia. These events are being organized by World Karate Federation (WKF) and hosted by National Federations (NF) of respective countries and Aniket is the only male Individual Kata player from India as well as entire South Asian countries.

Aniket is one of the longest playing Indian karate players who has represented India in the Global platform and accordingly is the inspiration to numerous Indian karate players of present generation. Under his guidance, several karate players have made their debut and careers, both in national and international levels. It would also be pertinent to mention in this context that his name was recommended this year by National Karate Controlling Body for conferring the prestigious Arjuna Award (First Player of Karate Sports to Recommended by NSF of Karate to Arjuna Award).
He is the First Indian and South Asian / Asian Karate Player to Win Medals in the last four consecutive Senior Commonwealth Karate Championships in a row Organised by Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) in the year of 2011, 2013, 2015 & 2018.
At present his Olympic standing ranking is 115th and Asian ranking in individual and Team categories are 15th and 9th respectively. His individual Asian ranking of 15th is the highest ranking ever secured by any Indian male Individual Senior Kata event.
