A Major League Baseball playing American team, Tampa Ray has become the first major North American Sports team to go cashless at their home stadium at Tropicana Field.
In an attempt to curtail the rush standing in ques, the Tropicana Field states there will be sheer fan satisfaction as the line move ahead.
Starting up on 9th February, the new initiative will apply to buy tickets, foods, drink merchandise as well as other products at the venue.
In the stadium, fans can make payment by using their credit cards, official club gift cards, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay including Rays Cards which are provided to Season-Ticket holders.
There is also some provisions available for those who don’t have cards or any form of cashless mode of payments, they will be able to swipe cash for gift cards.
Rays vice president of strategy and development William Walsh said: “We have made significant investments each year to improve the ballpark experience for fans, including an overhaul of our approach to food and beverage since the beginning of our partnership with Levy. This change will increase speed of service and reduce lines throughout the ballpark.”
Rakuten announced in early January that baseball team Tohoku Rakuten and J League soccer outfit Vissel Kobe – both owned by the Japanese ecommerce giant – would see their stadiums become the world’s first fully cashless sporting venues.
