After a deliberate hour-long meeting between Sports Ministry and SAI officials at the Shashtri Bhawan, the name of the Indian apex body of sports got renamed from SAI to ‘Sports India’.
The meeting was presided by the sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
In order to officially announce the new name of the SAI, there is yet one step to follow which is to notify the Registrar of Societies about the change of name. The remaining step can take a week or so for a full final changing of the name.
The Highest National Sports Body was Established under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports(MYAS) in the Country.
At present, SAI houses 2 Sports Academic Institutions, 14 centre of Excellence and 10 SAI regional centres, 56 Sports Training Centre besides 20 Special Area Games Centers.
In addition to that, The Apex Body if Indian sports also manages Five Stadiums in Delhi along with the Netaji Subhas High Altitude Training Centre at Shilaroo, Himachal Pradesh.
