acac Fitness & Wellness, Charlottesville, Virginia, has purchased the three Sportsclub Fitness & Wellness clubs in Greenville, South Carolina, the companies announced on Aug. 23. The price of the purchase was not disclosed.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the vibrant and active Greenville community,” acac CEO Chris Craytor said in the announcement. “Our plan is to make significant investments in the three facilities in the form of new equipment, system upgrades and renovations. We look forward to building upon the Sportsclub brand and to maintain its position as the Upstate’s premier fitness and wellness destination.”
Sportsclub was founded in 1975 while acac was founded by Phil Wendel in 1984 as a 5,000-square-foot club called Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs. With this purchase, acac now has 14 clubs in four states that include Maryland and Pennsylvania in addition to Virginia and South Carolina.
“Over the years, we have had an opportunity to know many of the leaders at acac and genuinely look forward to working with them,” said John Whitten, CFO of Sportsclub.
