Star India expended its regional presence by launching a new sports channel Star Sports1 Bangla (SS1 Bangla) devoted to the Bengali market.
The Indian major television entertainment network, Star India in a move to fulfil its commitment of boosting a multi-sports culture in the country has bring forth this new regional sports channel under its roster.
SS1 Bangla will be the fifth dedicated sports channel in the line of Star India’s regional channel network. The television network launched dedicated sports channel available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. In accordance with TRAI’s new tariff order, users can avail this new Bengali language venture of television network by just paying a rental of Rupees 19 per month.
Star Sports1 Bangla majorly aims to cater Bengali community bringing West Bengal closer to their favorite sports and sports star. The Channel having an eventful/action packed calendar of sports includes ICC Cricket World Cup, Vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 and the Hero ISL and The Vivo IPL 2019.
Besides, the sports channel will also provide curated Bengali content focused to various franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Bengal Warriors, ATK, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. A Star India spokesperson said, “West Bengal is a unique market with high affinity to language content and very distinctive viewing habits. Nuances of the game and local flavour add to a fan’s viewing experience and build a local affinity for sports in the region. With the Vivo IPL, followed by the ICC World Cup this year, it is indeed a ‘Summer of Cricket’ on Star Sports, and with Star Sports 1 Bangla, we have taken one more step towards treating fans to a customised and acquainted exposure.”
At the launching event of the Channel, the network has hosted a panel discussion on the topic of regional sports channel in India. The panel was featured with the presence of sporting stalwarts including former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian National team and President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, Sourav Ganguly, all-rounder cricketer and former captain of Indian National Women’s cricket team, Footballer Pronay Halder and Joydeep Karmarkar Shooter.
