Spanish football club, Barcelona has expanded its esports presence by signing a team to compete in Rocket League.
The newly signed team will make its debut in the European division of the Rocket League Championship Series(RLCS) on 7th April.
FC Barcelona picked up the team formerly known as “Savage!,” which earned an RLCS spot at the end of last season after competing in the lower-tier Rival Series.
With this association Barca will mark its second venture into the world of esports competition. It should be noted that the club has already a team active in eFootball.pro, a Pro Evolution Soccer League developed by game publishers Konami and current Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
Robert Kendall, Barcelona’s Rocket League coach said: “Being part of Barcelona is the greatest award that any athlete can achieve, so I am deeply honoured to lead this team. The fact that Barcelona joins the Rocket League is a success for both the club and the community.”
Following French champions Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona are the only second European Soccer club to launch an affiliate Rocket League Team.
There is another soccer team venturing into the world of esports is German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. Extending their pre-existing Fifa eSports team, The Bundesliga club have launched a league of Legends esports team.
