NFL is extending their content expansion program with Twitter. The multi-year partnership commenced in 2013.

The agreement features live programming tied to the League’s major events. Under the new partnership, content produced only for Twitter will appear the on the social networking platform. New six live shows are set to air during NFL kickoff season.

NFL vice president of digital media business development, Blake Stuchin commented on the deal, “Millions of people follow twitter every day to follow their favorite teams and players and participate in conversations about the NFL. We expect these new live shows to be among the most popular programs on Twitter, while serving to drive awareness and tune-in of our biggest tentpole events of the year.”

The NFL will also host QnAs leading up to kickoff of its prime-time games and weekly highlight reels on Twitter, among other things.

As the market is moving to real-time portals, NFL is becoming more aggressive to approach it. Industry experts say, social media giants are the next competitors of the cable networks.

In no time, Apple, Amazon and Facebook will start bidding on sports rights. But live games telecasted now on TV are unbeatable as of now. But, after the final whistle fans on social media may want an aftertaste of the match. This deal is aim to advertise that content which will be consumed after the game.
