NBA (National Basketball Association) is dominating the charts in China right now. A recent study conducted by Ampere Analysis hints at that.

Sports Pro reports that the study brings other surprising facts about sports viewership in China to light. China’s sports enthusiasts are mostly under the age of 44. European leagues like English Premier League and UEFA Championship are right behind NBA.

Home-grown variant of Premier league, Chinese Super league is facing a dry spell regarding viewership. They didn’t even make it to the top ten even though attendances at its fixtures continue to break the 40,000 mark. Only eight percent of participants said they would pay to watch a CSL match.

Ampere conducted similar studies in 20 markets. Surprisingly, China is the only place where table tennis is among the 10 most popular sports.

The senior analyst from Ampere, Alexios Dimitropoulos said, “In China, NBA already boasts of one of the country’s largest television rights contracts and that’s why the competition tours China and plays league matches locally. Many of the globe’s largest ports leagues have targeted China, but there is certainly more consumer appetite for competitions, and a willingness to pay to watch them.”

Other popular sports tournaments in China are- Fifa World Cup, Olympic Games, LaLiga, Serie A, World Cup Table Tennis Championships, UEFA European Championships and FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The organization conducted similar study in India. Tennis Four Grand Slams, Fifa World Cup and Pro Kabaddi League emerged as the most watched leagues.
