The commissioner of National Basketball Association, Adam Silver said affirmed that Africa will be next focal point on NBA radar.

Before the game of one of the NBA finals between Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors, Silver commented that the four players of the two teams were either from Africa or had African parents.

Adam said, “I think it absolutely speaks to the opportunity across the roughly 55 countries of Africa. It’s one of the places we are looking in the world where we see enormous opportunity.

Next year, the NBA is partnering with Fiba to kick off Basketball Africa League. It will be first of NBA to operate outside of North America. The league will feature 12 teams across the African continent.

The two organizations also run the Basketball without Borders Africa development and community outreach program to engage young players in 21 African countries, while the NBA also hosts a regular pre-season game on the continent.

Silver added that digital technology provided the league with the best opportunity to connect with African audience.
