Real Madrid is gearing up to launch its own women’s team, according to the news by Spanish Football Federation. The LaLiga giant is buying CD Tacon for 500k million to gain liga Iberdrola license.

Spanish news outlet El Mundo reported that Florentino Perez has sanctioned a deal worth almost 500,000 for Tacon’s license to be transferred to Real, with the re-branded team to take up their place in the next season.

The president of REFE women’s soccer committee, Rafael De Amo said, “The federation has something to do, we thought it was very important that the best national teams have a female team, I always told my Ream Madrid team that they would not great without a female team. I can say they are great.”

The arrangement only covers the first team, with a decision on an academy dependent on development. The women’s team will train and play at Real’s Ciudad Real Madrid Complex in Valdebebas.

Real Madrid was one of the last elite football clubs of Europe without a women’s team. With Tacon’s acquisition, the historic club will invest in other existing side. Real Madrid’s rival, Barcelona is the top-spending club in the Spanish women’s top flight, spending close to 4 million euros per year, but most clubs operate on a budget closer to 500,000 million euros per year.

The news comes shortly after the RFEF announced that next season there will be about 20 million euros allocated for women’s soccer, of which 6.5 million will go to the national team and rest to the club competitions. Of the club allocation the national soccer body will only contribute roughly seven per cent, according to Palco23, while the rest will come from commercial rights.
