Harvard-Westlake School, consistently ranked as the number one private high school in California, has partnered with SyncThink, a world leader in neurotechnology and brain health analytics and creators of the award-winning EYE-SYNC eye tracking platform, to provide advanced medical care for all student-athletes. Using EYE-SYNC will allow the school’s Sports Medicine staff to objectively measure brain performance to mitigate the effects of sleep deprivation, poor dynamic vision, and degraded attention that may lead to decreased cognitive function and sport-related injury.

Brian Gallagher, the Director of Sports Medicine at Harvard-Westlake School said, “We are always looking to improve the services we offer to our community at Harvard-Westlake and are extremely excited to partner with SyncThink. We look forward to helping assess and improve cognitive function and performance of our students as they pursue their academic and athletic goals.”

Harvard-Westlake is a leader and model in private and secondary education and is renowned for investing in the safety and holistic well-being of its students, so that they may be best positioned to achieve their academic and athletic goals. Recent studies have shown that lack of sleep is associated with increased sports-related concussion risk and that 72.7% of high school and 57.8% of middle school students don’t meet daily sleep recommendations.

“We are excited to welcome Harvard-Westlake as our first secondary education partner. We recognize the commitment they have made towards optimizing each student’s brain performance – their ability to learn and focus well are critical elements of achieving their academic and athletic goals,” said Chief Clinical Officer at SyncThink, Scott Anderson. “Furthermore, by monitoring these students closely, Harvard-Westlake will be able to offer more substantial support to positively impact impaired attention, or recommend subtle changes in lifestyle behaviors to mitigate the risk of injuries in sport and recreation.”

The EYE-SYNC platform has gained significant attention this year, having recently been awarded Breakthrough Device Designation by the FDA, which recognizes it has the potential to solve an important unmet need for providing objective measurements to aid in the assessment of concussion. SyncThink has a range of partners in top athletic and clinical organizations such as the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, the Pac-12 Athletic Conference, Mass General Hospital, Stanford Children’s Hospital, and Children’s National among others. Also, prominent sports figures such as Steve Young, Taylor Twellman, and Coby Fleener have all backed the company by serving as members of their Advisory Board.
