South African fast bowler, Dale Steyn shared his news of retiring from test cricket. The 36 year old played 93 tests from 2004 to 2019 and collected 493 wickets.

Dale Steyn started his test journey in a match against England at Port Elizabeth in December 2004. This was also his last place where played as a test cricketer back in February of this year against Sri Lanka.

The cricketer said in his statement, “It is terrible to consider never playing another Test again but what’s more terrifying is the thought of never playing again at all. So I will be focusing on ODIs and T20s for the rest of my career to maximize my full potential and ensure my longevity in this sport.

“Today I walk away from the format of the game I love so much. In my opinion test cricket is the best version of the game. It tests you mentally, physically and emotionally.”

Dale Steyn was one of the members of South Africa’s cricket team for 2019’s ICC World Cup. Because of a shoulder injury, he came back home without playing a match. During the 2019 Indian Premier league , Steyn has played two matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore and picked 4 wickets.

Steyn is the second big name to retire for South Africa in recent times. In 2018, AB de Villiers retired from all forms of international cricket but he continues to play in different T20leagues all around the world.
