Ace Sprinter Dutee Chand clocked 11.42 seconds to clinch the 100 metre gold at the Indian Grand Prix.

Indian sprinters were off to a good start at the 5th Indian Grand Prix. The competition comprises with 16 events for men and women.

Dutee Chand was the star attraction of the event. Speculations were around that most of India’s top 4x400m athletes and the relay teams will continue with their respective national camps in Jablonec nad Nisou in Czech Republic, according to the Athletics Foundation of India. After their successful outings in Spala, Poland, where some of them won gold medals and bettered national records, the team had decided to extend the stay till the World Championship in September and might even miss the Inter-state Athletics meet in Lucknow later this month.

Tamil Nadu’s Archana Suseentran gave a stiff competition to Dutee Chand, before taking the silver with a time of 11.53 while Punjab sprinter Manvir Kaur settled for the bronze with a timing of 12.28 seconds.

Archana gave the 200m sprint her best and won the two-woman race in a career best time of 23.18 seconds but couldn’t meet the World Championship qualification standard 23.02 seconds. Having finished second behind Dutee in the 100m, she returned to the track determined to make the half-lapper one to remember.
