Prime Minister Narendra Modi today will be introducing a nation-wide Fit India Movement. The event will take place at 10 pm at Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi.

The prime minister is expected to address the people and will also administer a fitness pledge.

The entry for the event will be given based on PIB (Press informational Bureau) accreditation card only.

Minister of Youth affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju tweeted prior to the event, “Tremendous supports are coming from all sections of the society to participate in the Fit India Movement to be launched by PM Narendra Modi ji on August 29 at 10 pm. Chief ministers, corporates and many icons are taking amazing steps to make the program a grand success.”

During his latest ‘Man ki Baat’ address, PM Modi has asked people to take part in ‘Fit India Movement’ which is being organized to celebrate the ‘National Sports day’ on August 29.

The Fit India Movement aims to encourage people to take up more physical activities and healthy living. The University Grant commission has issued a letter to inform the universities to prepare for Fit India Movement to be held on August 29.

The advisory committee which will be working with the government on Fit India Movement comprises of government officials, members of Indian Olympic Associations, national sports federations, private bodies and fitness promoters.

The 28-member committee, which will be under the chairmanship of sports minister Kiren Rijiju, has 12 members from the government, including secretaries of sports, secondary education, Ayush, Youth Affairs, among others.

IOA president and seven NSF heads, including those of boxing, athletics, football and cycling, are also a part of the committee.

Representatives of private bodies such as Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Reliance Foundation, JSW Cement and JSW Paints, SE TransStadia Pvt. Ltd, Tata Trusts, ASSOCHAM India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and actors Shilpa Shetty and Milind Soman are also involved.

Last year, then sports minister and Olympic medalist Rajyavardan Singh Rathore took to the social media and initiated a fitness campaign called #humFitTohIndiaFit. He had posted a video on Twitter doing 10 push-ups while encouraging sports personalities and share pictures and videos on the site to show they kept themselves fit.
