Two-time Paralympic gold medallist and Khel Ratna Awardee, Devendra Jhajharia, joins global bank Citi to shine a spotlight on the Paralympic Movement worldwide.
Devendra Jhajharia created history when he broke his own record 12 years apart to secure a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. He is also the first Paralympian to be conferred with the Khel Ratna in 2017. He is one of 41 Para athletes from around the world who joins Citi’s “Team Citi” as an ambassador to support the company’s global efforts to foster a more diverse, inclusive society and help change perceptions of persons with disabilities.
Jhajharia who secured his berth for Tokyo 2020 at the recently held Paris 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix said, “I am really happy to partner with Citi. It is an honour to be associated with a brand that has supported the Paralympic Movement and I am confident that together, we can change the conversation around individuals with disabilities.”
Devendra is exclusively represented by Meraki Sport and Entertainment, who structured this partnership and speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sharba Tasneem, Head – Talent & Content, said, “Given that Devendra is one of the most powerful voices for Para-Sport in the country, this partnership with Citi will certainly, help change perceptions around people with disabilities and foster a more inclusive culture.”
In 2018, Citi announced its partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and 18 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) as they prepare for the upcoming World and regional Championships, as well as the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
