Punjab Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Rana Sondhi announced on Friday that former shooter, Abhinav Bindra will serve as a mentor at the Sports University of Patiala.
Former professional shooter Abhinav Bindra will guide the budding the athletes in the university. It was finalized after the meeting conducted between the sports minister and the Olympic first gold medal winner.
Rana Sondhi commented after the interaction, “The proposal has been made to establish a new High-performance Center that can assess and Train the Physical Parameters of an athlete using Data and real-time visual feedback.
“Technology would enable athletes to access sports-specific training routines customized for them by a team of sports medicine consultant, physiotherapists, sports scientists and data analysts.
“State government will be looking to support the plan with the help of a corporate sponsor. Such initiatives would certainly steer Punjab towards glory in the sporting arena.” Sodhi added.
Abhinav Bindra on the occasion also saw the gallery of photographs of eminent sports persons, including his pictures in the ministers’ room, who have carved out a niche for themselves as well as brought laurels to Punjab.
Rana Sonshi was present at the Beijing Olympic when Bindra secured his first individual gold medal in shooting for India. The minister recalled the journey of Bindra from his days at the Doon School right till his becoming Olympic champion.
